Most of the senior citizens in the United States suffer from at least one chronic disease. Around 80 percent of the elderly suffer from a chronic disease and 50 percent have been diagnosed with a chronic disease (Dowell, Haegerich, & Chou, 2016). Therefore counter measures to deal with chronic diseases should be highly prioritized as this population of the elderly continues to grow. This paper explores regular medical checkups and adopting healthy life style as most favorable strategies that can be undertaken while dealing with ethnically diverse elderly patients suffering from a chronic disease in a bid to Maintain Comfort. Most chronic diseases are life threating if not detected early or managed properly for the individuals already suffering from them. Therefore attention should be given to patients as many may be hesitant to pointing out any physical problem that they might be experiencing. Regular prostrate, breast, cervical and cancer screenings, diabetes and cholesterol tests should be focused on (Wiley et al., 2015). Moreover, professional observation on any physical, mental and past behaviors may also aid in giving clues about a present condition. These observations can be highly relied to combat the disease as many elderly citizens especially those suffering from dementia have a tendency of losing track time and forgetting past events.
Practicing a healthy lifestyle
Healthy lifestyle ranges from healthy eating, regular exercise and avoiding drugs and substance abuse, is an adequate strategy in management of chronic illness among the elderly while the elderly with chronic conditions may not be able to get around well especially in cases involving arthritis, partial paralysis, they should be encouraged to exercise.
